About Phuket Confidential

Phuket sells a fantasy: the villa, the beach club, the two-week romance, the transformation trip. We cover what happens next. The 7-Eleven dinner. The ATM receipt. The visa run. The girlfriend who now calls the condo "our room".

Phuket Confidential is an English-language publication about nightlife, dating, money, status and expat life on the island, told through stories, short observations and plain explanations. We are interested in the collision between holiday and real life, and in the details that make that collision funny, expensive or occasionally moving.

What we publish

• Confidential Files. Numbered stories, three to eight minutes long. Every File belongs to the same universe, so you can say "Have you read File 12?"
• Field Notes. Thirty seconds of Phuket: one place, one time, one observation.
• Reality Checks. The economics and psychology behind the stories, without moralising.
• Phuket Intel. Useful local knowledge with genuine insider value.
• Phuket Species. A field guide to the island's recurring characters.
• Confessions. Reader stories, edited and anonymised.

Who the joke is on

Our humour is aimed at self-deception: the fantasy, the status games, the gap between what people say and what they do. The Thai people in our stories are people with their own logic, interests and intelligence, often the smartest person in the scene. We do not publish stories built on mocking appearance, accents, poverty or anyone's job.

Independence

We do not take money from venues to appear in stories. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be labelled clearly, and paying us will never buy anyone out of critical coverage.
