How We Work

How Phuket Confidential stories are made, labelled and checked.

Phuket Confidential can be provocative. It should never be unreliable. This page explains what our labels mean and the rules we follow.

Every piece carries a label

LabelWhat it means
Composite · names and details changedA story built from several real observations and situations. Characters are not real individuals; names, places and details are changed.
Reader story · editedBased on a reader submission, rewritten in our style and anonymised.
Reality Check · AnalysisAn explanation of how something works. Opinion and analysis, not reporting on individuals.
Phuket Intel · GuidePractical information, with the date it was last checked. Rules and prices change; always confirm with the venue, hotel or authority.
Phuket Species · SatireA composite archetype. Satire, not a description of any real person.
Field NoteA short observation. Small details may be changed to protect the people in it.

Our rules

  • We never present an unverified serious allegation about an identifiable person or business as fact.
  • We do not name venues in negative stories unless the claim is substantiated and documented.
  • Private individuals are always anonymised. We remove details that could identify them.
  • Police, officials, the monarchy and religion are not subjects for our satire.
  • We do not publish identifiable photos of people in nightlife settings without their consent. Our images are illustrations.

How stories are produced

Our stories start from observation, conversation and reader submissions. We use software tools, including AI, to help with drafting, formatting and social versions. Every published piece is selected, edited and checked by a person for accuracy, tone and cultural detail before it goes out.

Reader submissions

Submissions are anonymous by default. We never publish them raw: we rewrite, anonymise and remove anything that could identify the people involved. We do not publish anything involving minors, non-consent or a crime against an identifiable person.
