Checklist 04
Alcohol Rules
The afternoon beer ban is gone. Since 29 May 2026 shops sell from 11 a.m. to midnight. Here's what still gets you a "sorry, no".

-
Shop hours
11 a.m. to midnight.
The old 2 to 5 p.m. dead zone is history. After midnight, the shop won't sell you that beer.
Stock up before 11:59
-
Bars & clubs
The licence decides last call.
Hotels and licensed venues can keep other hours. That's why one bar shuts while the club next door rolls on.
Ask the bartender, not google
-
Dry days
Check the calendar first.
Election days and major Buddhist holidays can mean no alcohol sales at all. Yes, on your birthday too.
A dry day is not a local joke
-
No-drink zones
Not everywhere is a bar.
No buying or drinking at temples, government offices, petrol stations, public parks or transport areas.
The temple is not the pre-party
-
Age 20
Twenty, with ID.
Bars, clubs and shops can card you. A passport works as proof of age. Carry ID, even if you look 40.
Copy in the phone, ID in the pocket
