Cannabis in Phuket

The weed rules flipped. Old blogs say "legal, go wild". Since June 2025 that's wrong, and the fines are real.

  1. Since june 2025

    Flower is a controlled herb.

Recreational sale is banned. Plenty of shops closed; some still have the green lights on.

The sign is older than the law

  2. Prescription

    No prescription, no purchase.

Buying needs a prescription from a licensed Thai practitioner, 30-day supply max. A menu isn't one.

A shop sticker is not a doctor

  3. In public

Smoke in public: up to 25,000 baht.

Or up to 3 months in jail, or both. And that applies even if you do have the prescription.

The beach is public. So is Bangla.

  4. The airport

Don't fly with it. Either way.

Taking cannabis into or out of Thailand is illegal. Your home country probably has opinions too.

Leave the souvenirs in the shop

  5. The myth

    "my friend said it's fine."

Your friend read a 2023 blog. The rules changed in 2022 and again in 2025. Check today's, not his.

Today's rule beats last year's reel
