Checklist 01
Five Laws Tourists Break
5 laws tourists break before midnight. I watch tourists break all five on night one. Number three catches almost everyone.

-
Vaping
The vape is the crime.
Bringing, buying, using: all illegal. Two Brits reportedly paid 40,000 baht for vaping on a beach.
The guy selling them is not your lawyer
-
Cannabis
The weed party ended in 2025.
Flower now needs a Thai prescription. Smoking in public: up to 25,000 baht or 3 months, prescription or not.
An open shop is not open season
-
Age 20
Not 18. Twenty.
Legal drinking age is 20 and bars can card you. Your passport works. Your confident face does not.
Carry ID, even if you look 40
-
Scooter
Your car licence doesn't count.
You need a motorcycle licence plus an IDP valid for bikes. No licence: a fine, maybe an impounded bike.
The rental guy didn't ask. The police will.
-
Helmet
Helmet on. Both of you.
Rider and passenger, every ride, even the two minutes to 7-Eleven. The easiest fine on the island.
The helmet goes on your head, not the mirror
